Dnipro Reaction

A somewhat surprising comeback propelled us into the last sixteen of the Europa League. Although our league form may well suffer as a result of this competition, we should nonetheless be trying to add some long-awaited silverware to our trophy cabinet. Anyway, here are some things worth noticing from last night's performance.

Eriksen should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The talented Dane again showed last night why he is one of Europe's highest rated young talents. A brilliant free-kick, his second of the campaign, leveled the scoring on the night and his assist for Adebayor's equaliser was inch-perfect. His creativity alone warrants a first-team place, something we were sorely missing against Norwich. If only he was available for that game...

"Chill the fuck out, I got this."

Adebayor deserves a new contract.

Yet another game goes by where Adebayor proves to be the difference between the two sides. Where would we be without him? Probably stuck in dystopian post-AVB limbo, relying on Soldado to sadly fail to put away chances. Seriously, Adebayor is a machine. His second goal was a difficult chance by anyone's standards but his sublime chest and finish made it look easy. Sherwood, like Redknapp did, indulges Adebayor as a player, explaining his excellent form of late. Let's hope our next manager gets similar results because on his day, Ade is unplayable.

On the right: this season's success story. On the left: his polar opposite.

I would genuinely play Fryers over Rose.

Brains go a long way in football. For all of Rose's athletic ability, he doesn't seem to have the positional sense or intelligence of pass in his game. Young Zeki seems a lot less rash in possession, perhaps not as capable of the lung-busting runs that Rose contributes but a far more composed and solid defender. I certainly think he could be one to watch for the future at least.

You can't argue with those thighs.

Sandro (although rusty last night) will be vital to any success we may have this season.

As long as your name isn't Nabil Bentaleb, reading that the beast is back in action is great news. He offers an immense work rate in front of the back four combined with near-perfect tackling and immense strength. Success at any big away game will be centered around the fitness of Sandro; imagine going to Anfield with Bentaleb as your holding midfielder? You may as well call the game off. That's no disrespect to the youngster, it's just that Sandro is the superior option.

If anyone else was sporting this beard it'd be laughable. But no one laughs at the beast.
