Post-match pointers and looking ahead to THFC vs Lyon

There's a new TV show coming to Sky Sports soon, apparently. It's called The Gareth Bale Show. You may have heard of it. I've seen a few episodes, and without hyperbole, it's sublime.

I am of course referring to our game against Newcastle. Bale proved to everyone yet again that he is a truly incredible talent; a top-drawer free-kick and a perfect solo effort combining pace and technique were enough to see off the relegation-threatened Newcastle. Here's a few things I noticed, Bale aside, from that game.

I'm the best, mayn

First off, I'm still surprised by how well we press the ball at times. Feel free to gather the appropriate clips off of YouTube and apply an Alan Shearer accent over this paragraph. Every time Newcastle had the ball in their own half there were at least two Tottenham players surrounding the ball, forcing them to lose possession. It is almost Barcelona-esque at times. This game-plan appears a much more thoroughly thought-out process in comparison to the ol' "Run araand a bit" employed by our previous gaffer. AVB just can't help but find new ways to impress me.

Deep in pensive thought... What lies beneath BAE's hair?

Another point that I'm sure all of you have picked up on is our Captain Fantastic, Mr. Dawson. It's no secret that I'm not Dawson's biggest fan, but lately he has been brilliant. His performances contain the usual passion you'd expect from the player who loved the club too much to leave (take note, Modric). However, he also seems to have wised up defensively and cut out the small errors that hindered his game in the past. Dawson's performance was perhaps summed up in the dying embers of the game when he charged forward to block a shot that could have led to an equaliser. What an absolute hero.

They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

Speaking of hero, Hugo Lloris is fast approaching this milestone in Tottenham fandom. I've been singing his praises since his Lyon days, and you can see why he is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world let alone the Premier League. Newcastle had another late chance to nick a point, and they would have if it wasn't for Lloris' agility off his line to close down the shot. He had little to do that day, but the sign of a top goalkeeper is the fact that they don't let you down when called upon. I still think we're extremely lucky to have him; surely he'd walk into Barcelona's team!

Marry me?

Next up is another French team in Lyon. Currently sitting in 2nd just behind The French Man City, we should expect a tough test from this side. However, they have lost their previous two fixtures, so perhaps we can exploit this. I expect AVB to rotate the side slightly, possibly allowing Sigurdsson and Huddlestone a start. I must say, I'd like to see Huddlestone get a game. His playing style is more suited to the European game. Sigurdsson really deserves a goal, too, so it'd be nice if he could get one in this game.

Siggy is due a goal!

I'm hoping for a narrow win against Lyon on Thursday, followed by a drubbing of the Hammers Monday week. Up the Spurs!
