January Investment the Key for Spurs

I opted for the more sensible title today. It was a close one between this and the musical "4-1 in your cup final". Nothing like a healthy victory to put West Ham back in their place. The rate we're currently going should see us well in with a chance of our much desired top four finish this time round. But we've been here before. On the back of a solid run at the turn of the year... our investments? Saha and Nelsen. After a long wait, we've finally got the chance to rectify our past mistake and invest in our future.

Dier has become a vital component of Pochettino's starting eleven.

Let's first look at our thrashing of West Ham. Their gameplan was evident; sit back with ten men behind the ball and grab a goal or two on the counter. It has worked at several big sides this season but not today. After struggling to get into the game initially, we broke the deadlock by an excellent turn and finish by Harry Kane. Alderweireld added another soon after and it was clear Bilic's tactics were all wrong. They had to change things during the second half.

Kane fires us ahead today. Not bad for a one season wonder.

They didn't. In truth, we should've won by 5 or 6. The woodwork was hit twice by Alli and later Mason and Kane should've grabbed a second late in the first half. He did, however, eventually secure his brace with a tidy long range finish past some suspect goalkeeping before an excellent Kyle Walker finish rounded off the Spurs scoring. The only  disappointment was a late West Ham goal - which did win me £29 on a correct score - but unfortunately took away our clean sheet. The performance was excellent without ever really hitting top gear and obliterating the opposition. Things are looking good at the moment, but we shouldn't rest on our laurels in January.

Alderweireld (right) is one of our astute summer signings but we must add to this growing project.

We've seen it before. Things won't be going this well for the entire season. Some investment is needed. A couple of injuries could still turn the tide of optimism we're currently experiencing. Saido Berahino is currently sitting on the bench for West Brom and would no doubt love a transfer to White Hart Lane and the opportunity to work under a manager who gives young, English talent a chance to flourish.  An offer of around £20m should secure his services and add another option to our forward line. I'd be happy to see Fazio leave too and perhaps bring in another young defender as cover. The squad could still be readjusted slightly and we shouldn't settle for what we have. I fear Levy will, however, which could be the difference between fourth and fifth. Now is our chance to really kick on with a couple of key additions.

The future of club and country.

Finally, I'd like to put an end to the Tottenham title talk. We won't win the league. Ask any Spurs fan what they'd say if they were offered a CL spot at the moment and they'd bite your hand off. It's important we remain grounded but at the same time our optimism can't hurt. To dare is to do.
