A disappointing end for Bobby |
I bet if the multiverse theory is correct then there are nine world class Tottenham teams for every one largely average side we witnessed Saturday. The Tottenham side where Redknapp decided to sign Suarez. The Tottenham side which was given much needed investment the January we sat in third place. The Tottenham side where our £38m Aguero bid was accepted before he joined City. The Tottenham side where Willian joined and the one where Soldado wasn't a gigantic flop God bless him. Anyway, there's no way of knowing for sure how good our side could've been. We must get on with the here and now, offering our unconditional support as ever.
A few pointers from the game against Stoke. I've defended Erik Lamela for two years but he continues to flatter to deceive to put it politely. Time looks like it's running out on the Argentine's Tottenham career and I pray he pulls out another rabona before he's shipped back to Italy.

Time running out for Erik? |

Forward please, Moussa. |
Moussa Dembele is another who flatters to deceive. While I thought he had a good game Saturday, he has never quite reached the heights expected of him at the Lane. My biggest problem with the lad is that his feet work quicker than his brain. He'll beat 3 players and pass the ball back to Vertonghen. It's frustrating to say the least, I really feel like if he had the coaching earlier in his career he'd have been moulded into a world class player by now. Ah well.
The signing of Clinton N'Jie should go some way to improving our first XI. While the 22 year old may not settle instantly, his attribute set including lightening pace and decent finishing ability should add a new dimension to our attacking play. Kane, Chadli, Eriksen and Dembele were our four forward thinking players last weekend and none of them boast any real sort of speed. I'm certain N'Jie will change that.

What a boss. |

Let's hope this boy signs soon. |
However, there still remains gaps in our squad, none more noticeable than the lack of substitute striker. A bid for WBA's Saido Berahino was previously rejected, with the club stating that he isn't for sale. While I think we will be able to get the player if we offer enough (£18m + Fazio potentially?) it's up to Levy whether we get this deal done in time for Saturday's trip to Leicester. If not, certainly before the window closes in two weeks. At least one more striker and a defensive midfielder are needed if we are to be taken seriously this season. Even if these players are signed, the likelihood is that we will miss out on the top four again this season. Depressing, but the reality is we're only one year into a project that will take time to reward us. Patience is the key word.

To round things off on a positive note I refer back to the aforementioned multiverse theory. At least we aren't living in the universe where Bale was sold to Nottingham Forest. The universe where Kane didn't make it. Or, God forbid, the universe where Sol Campbell became a Conservative representative. Cunt.
