Five Predictions for the 2013/14 Season

Ah, the ol' five predictions. Classic. I did five predictions for 2012 on my old blog but I can't remember where I left the article. I can promise they're all accurate though. Now for this season's prophecies; hold onto your hats, folks, it's gonna be a wild ride.

1) Tottenham to finally finish above Arsenal

I can almost guarantee you that if one of my predictions are to fail, it'll be this one. So many false dawns over the past few seasons. It can go one of two ways (obviously). We could fall short yet again, stumbling around April time to a disappointing end-of-season slump while Arsenal somehow manage to go on another unbeaten streak. However, their luck is due to run out and we're due a strong finish to a season. With Kaboom and The Beast returning, a few quality signings inbound and either Bale or £90+mil to add to the side, I don't see why 13/14 can't finally be our season. Maybe. Well, this is probably my most bold prediction and it's good to get it out the way.

Kaboul will bring the fear factor back to our defence.

2) Soldado to hit 20+ goals and become a Tottenham legend

A bit of a safer prediction, this one. Roberto Soldado is renowned for his ability to essentially appear at the right place at the right time. He scored 24 goals in 35 appearances for Valencia last season, a record that neither Defoe nor Adebayor can ever boast. So, simply put, he does what it says on el tin. A worrying percentage of our goals were scored by GB11 last season and if we can take some weight off his shoulders that'd be helpful. Hell, he might not even be here by the time we review my predictions. Fingers crossed everything works out for the best...

That's right, we're going for a bit of a 'five' theme.

3) Townsend to 'emerge' as a true talent

...at gambling. Haha, I kid. The winger, who turned 22 last month, will surely be out to impress AVB when given his chance. Townsend is more than likely to feature in the final twenty minutes of Premier League matches, with his pace, dribbling and dangerous shooting proving a potent weapon. Just look at his performances for that circus club from West London last season (no, not the Chavs, the other ones). He looked to have honed his talent at running with the ball and turning it into an end product. There is still a bit of work to be done in terms of decision making, but it is clear that Townsend has a lot of potential. I believe the 13/14 campaign will be a breakthrough for him in a Tottenham shirt.

Betting jokes aren't in poor taste, are they?

4) Chadli to be the surprise signing

Now this guy I like. Let's look at what he's got going for him. He's tall, strong, skillful, and has an eye for goal when cutting in from the left flank. He also hails from Belgium, and in today's climate that's pretty much codename for success. If he's anything like our other two Belgians we'll be laughing. The reason I think he could surprise a few people is that all eyes will be on the big-money signings; Paulinho and Soldado were both record transfers for us (albeit the former's sum of £18mil was a stat that only lasted a few weeks). Chadli could well end up being one of the buys of the summer at a mere £7mil. Let's not forget he only turned 24 this month.

Standing at 6'2", Chadli dwarfs those trees in the background.

5) Cocktail to take the world by storm

"He wouldn't stop posting joke after joke"

But seriously.

5) Kyle Walker to officially return

That's right, folks. KW of 11/12 will return. The powerful, fast and most importantly solid defender of the past will be back in our lives. Lord how I missed that boy. Last season's 6 month+ blip will prove to be just that; a blip. Walker is blessed with incredible acceleration that can get him out of trouble most of the time, an important talent for any footballer. However, his downfall has always been giving away needless free-kicks in dangerous positions. If he can cut this out I can see him progressing into one of the world's best full-backs no question. The sheer energy he has is something to be admired, and I hope we manage to keep hold of him for years to come.

Bring back free kick-scoring Walker, please.

Well, that just about wraps up my predictions for the coming season. Feel free to leave a comment describing your predictions for 13/14. Let's hope it's a good one.
