First things first, apologies for not blogging often. Too busy living life to the fullest on Fallout: New Vegas.
Anyway, I digress. It's not over yet, ladies and gentlemen. There's plenty of positives to take from today's game. Here's a few.
1) Adebayor might just be back.
Ade celebrates with little-to-no effort. |
You may have noticed somebody slip our Emmanuel a little bag with a dollar sign on before the game. It's either that or the bloke has finally been rewarded for his efforts. My guess is the later. Adebayor had a new vigour and vitality about his play; he held the ball up well, created opportunities for both himself and his teammates and, were it not for the post, would have claimed a brace. A very strong performance from the Togolese, expect more of the same against Basel.
2) Tom Huddlestone could still have a part to play.
Return of the 'fro |
"Oh, here we go. Elliott's bigging up Huddlestone again, what a shock". While it is true I'm probably Huddlestone's biggest fan since the pound-saver menu, I genuinely think he has been underused by AVB. He possesses a brilliant range of passing which we've missed at times this season. Definitely deserves more of a look-in.
3) Kyle Walker's attacking form was sharp.
Money can't buy you a decent haircut, apparently. |
Although he gets lambasted for his lack of intelligence defensively, it was clear today that while Lennon is unavailable Walker remains our only lightening-fast attacking player. He beat Baines at will today, and was unlucky with a few crosses. He nearly had an assist too if Adebayor hadn't hit the post. We'll pretend Dempsey was expertly drifting inside to allow Kyle so much space down the right.
4) Townsend looks superb on loan at QPR.
Rapid. |
Was anyone watching QPR today? As astronomically shite as they were, Townsend was one of few shining lights in an otherwise (Kieran) Dire team. His pace and willingness to run at players really had me on the edge of my seat today, and I can't wait to see the lad in a lilywhite shirt next season. Although some have criticised AVB's decision to loan the youngster, I would argue that the Andros we're seeing on loan wouldn't be the same one we'd have left on the bench.
5) Sigurdsson has the right mentality.
The Ice-Man Cometh |
It's no secret that Gylfi had a slow start to his Tottenham career, but his constant endeavor's have finally been rewarded with his recent form. He grabbed another goal today and constantly worked hard for the side.
If we can get through the Basel game and hopefully make the Europa League semi-finals we have a break to get all of our players fit and firing again. Forget about Chelsea and Arsenal, we've just got to take as many points as possible and see what happens.
In AVB I trust. COYS!
